Nicola Serra, founder of East London's experimental music festival Dronica, presents new and archival material.

This episode stems from a recent series of dreams. These include amulet messages, jumps between dimensions, showers of candy gummies, visits from family and pets, surreal markets, and healing under rain. Bachelard's L'Eau et les Rêves describes water as the source of daydreams, mixing the everyday with the cosmic. Jung's archetypes help explain the amulets and symbols we receive rather than create. Breton's surrealist automatism supports the non-linear logic of dimensional jumps. Animist beliefs hold that ancestors, family, and pets share the same dream space, finding healing at the edge of rain.

The selection includes Federico Durand's music-box-like temporality, Félicia Atkinson and Christina Vantzou's dream-like soundscapes, J and the Woolen Stars' domestic pieces, OMMA & Taiga Ultan's self-dismantled compositions, Brian d'Souza's acoustic ecologies, Shakali's deep-listening phonography (along with Mitamine Lab's latest mix), M. Geddes Gengras's modular unpredictability, Alan Watts's philosophy of dissolving boundaries, and Archypness and Abo Abo, with their sci-fi textures from DE RIO, Florence.

Mitamine Lab is a culture laboratory based in Mexico City which blends sound archives with contemporary music and literature.

PINS is a game for all anonymous egos, everywhere, made through repositioning and reproducing old dreams and documents. PINS is a game that rejects the word “practice”, a ponderous barrage balloon of a word, one with a thin skin that can be undone with a pin prick, revealing an awful lot of hot air. Leave it for the doctors and lawyers.

Or call it “praccy”. PINS favours the word “process”. Process can mean the slow deconstructing of making art. Process also means something that can be tracked. It means repeated and unglamourous toil, uncertainty, silence, private actions with no hope of public validation, multiple failures and misunderstandings, and – eventually – something or other. In the 1960s you could enact “death by Process”. There is rarely a plan, just an idea. Chance, whim, accident and other people play a role in the end result.
What does Richard think about PINS?

Richard often feels between worlds. He remembers the congealed boredom of the analogue industrial past. He is often wary of the earnest, yet fly-by-night present with its assumed importances and digital fevers. Like Syd Barrett, he is “much obliged” to contemporary life for regularly “making it clear that he’s not here”. Richard realises that being between these worlds is both his natural state and his opportunity to act. Between 1840 and 2023 he spent an incalculable amount of time looking out of bedroom windows, or sitting in pubs listening to builders, plumbers and middle managers telling him what real art is. Now he wants to bring those worlds he saw together, somehow. He feels he has a lot to do, even if his work may not make much sense.

Back in 2004, Richard painted out all the images he didn’t like in hundreds of 12” record covers. Only those that momentarily interested him stayed. The record covers are still more interesting than Richard’s actions. They are now under the spare bed. One day he may photocopy them. Every day on SAVVY Funk at documenta 14 Mobile Radio (Sarah Washington & Knut Aufermann) delved deep into a collection of artefacts and memories, rendering them into radiophonic form. This series called Render live features old audio formats and conceptual works smothered in the hiss of time, plus special guests.

In this episode, Concepción Huerta and Fe Sexta share a wide range of music, recordings, and sounds that influenced them on their journey towards mapping relationships between personal and collective memory across regions of South America, which resulted in the commissioned work MAPS : Electronic Resonances Between Ecuador and Mexico premiered this year at CTM Festival.

MAPS aimed to revive audio archives of pioneering electronic music composers in Mexico and Ecuador, active in the 1970s.

This episode focuses on the rare experimental and deviant music that can conceptually be called the "dancefloor destroyer". Its narrative unfolds from early electronic, synthesizer and computer music and we discover that the only Soviet major label without any censorship boldly released music in the genres of EBM and no-wave, sympho-prog, acid-opera and even “post-pop”.

This episode is less about the music of all the countries of the Soviet Union – only focusing on Estonia, Latvia and Russia – but is rather my personal poetic statement, representing the diversity of Soviet experimental music in the late 80s and early 90s. This music sounds extremely modern right now. I chose the neo-romantic twist of Nochnoy Prospeckt's Antidisco Song as the main motif of the release, which opens and closes the show.

Uzbekistan-based DJ and boss of the experimental TOPOT label Eugenie Galochkin presents rare vinyl rips from the Soviet Melodia label. Melodia has released music from all around the world: from obscure Baltic electronica and free jazz from Siberia; to synth-pop from Tajikistan and academic avant-garde from Ukraine. The series will explore how national and cultural characteristics are embedded in musical language.

"It was a shape around something else, like everything..."

Dingus is a six-part radio drama produced by CBS and recorded at the height of the 1943 flu pandemic that swept through Hollywood. Denied of a marquee cast and blighted by a curious obsession with the object that drives its narrative, this innovative and formally-reflexive oddity disappeared almost completely without trace. In 2010 artist Mike Cooter set out to find and rehabilitate this elusive artefact, initiating an 12-year journey that culminates in the re-emergence tonight of Dingus.

Andrew Backhouse is an artist and radio geek based in North Yorkshire who has always loved radio and sees it as a place for exploration, not answers.

This episode takes the relationship between sound and space as its starting point. It features interviews with US academic and artist Brandon LaBelle, and British geographer George Revill. Brandon discusses the ways in which sound studies itself has carved out a particular space within academia, as well as the development of his own thinking on listening, acoustics and a sonic approach to politics. George examines the ways geographers have approached the relationship between sound and space, and discusses how sound might give us new ways of thinking about and communicating the complexities of environmental change.

Worthwhile Unions is a radio series by Anna Clegg with a focus on meeting points. Often collaborative and pulling heavily from online sources, the series works to extract a kind of cinema of feeling, contradicting and evasive, from dense combinations of music, sound and samples.

This month: Sonic Darts returns to our Sound Art Kids theme, playing unusual and brilliant sound and music made with children and young people, including family field recording outings, harmonising with hoovers and chill out music for pigs.

We also speak to Dan Mayfield from sound and science educators, School of Noise, and sound artist, musician and composer Duncan Chapman about his workshops for children focussing on sound, place and the environment.
