Investigations of the Brazilian experimental music scene via Rio De Janeiro's Quintavant label in collaboration with Audio Rebel. With live performances and exploratory sounds produced in the context of Brazil's strange political situation, curated by Francisco Mazza, Bernando Oliveira and Pedro Azevedo.

Recording from a recent surfacing of SEA MANTIS at Evening 23 of Levente Dudas' Konsztukting Soundz Season 2 at the Fisherman's Chapel, Leigh on Sea, combined with recordings from a walk along the Essex estuary.

SEA MANTIS is a semi-mythical, many tentacled aquatic being with a seeming tendency to emerge in the combined company of Ed Shipsey, Andrew Ciccone, Adam Kinsey and Stephan Barrett; four active members of London's free improvisation and experimental music scene.

First surfacing in 2019, occasional sightings have since been reported at various live music settings around East London, alongside sporadic radio transmogrifications on Radiophrenia and Littoral Transmissions' Resonance Extra show. Having now been seen outside its usual habitat, rumour has it that the MANTIS may surface once again, in other unforeseen locations.

Littoral Transmissions meander through the sonic landscape of the River Lea from Stonebridge Lock to Leamouth. Recordings from the field converge with layers of sound to create an aural impression of the navigation.

This third episode features four artists who took part in a research residency at GMEA (Albi, France) as part of the Tekhnē, initiated in 2023:

• Gauthier Deplaude in an informal discussion with Benjamin Maumus about his project Horloges etc.. This work uses two quartz clocks and their electrical environment as the sole sound sources, within a unique technical setup created by the artist, without effects or attempts at control.

• Rodolphe Bourotte tested his latest music production software, COMMA, during his residency. He engages in an informal discussion about his program and insights from his residency week.

• Yann Leguay shares an anecdote about one of his early projects, Dead Media, which centered on reversing the recording process in a vinyl pressing factory in France that has since closed. He reflects on the notions of trace, media, and collective memory.

• Abigail Toll presents Where Words Fail: World Building With Data, Sound, and Co-creation, a sound and interdisciplinary visual study that explores algorithmic herd behaviour in nature and its connections to surveillance practices.

Bi-monthly insights into the activities of the European project tekhnē, which started in 2023. The series showcases a selection of artists who share and discuss their work and listen to recorded material. By putting the focus on the user rather than the developer, this project aims to explore the emancipatory potential of technology in music and sound art. Technology as an art of craft, appropriating and transforming existing tools, to imagine multiple ways of creative misuse. tekhnē is a collaborative project, co-funded by the European Union.

Welcome to Vague Wanderings by School of the Damned. This is a space for temporary autonomous zones, processed and collected recordings and collective scrabbles at the fertile topsoil of vague terrains. Tonight, We're sharing recordings and stories made in a tunnel under an Ikea in Shenzhen, a pavilion in Hangzhou, under a bridge in London, and monasteries in Yunnan.

Vague Wanderings is a bi-monthly collaborative live show from the 24-26 cohort of School of the Damned, exploring imagined spaces, temporary autonomous zones, collecting field recordings and the fertile topsoil of vague terrains.

This episode focuses on the rare experimental and deviant music that can conceptually be called the "dancefloor destroyer". Its narrative unfolds from early electronic, synthesizer and computer music and we discover that the only Soviet major label without any censorship boldly released music in the genres of EBM and no-wave, sympho-prog, acid-opera and even “post-pop”.

This episode is less about the music of all the countries of the Soviet Union – only focusing on Estonia, Latvia and Russia – but is rather my personal poetic statement, representing the diversity of Soviet experimental music in the late 80s and early 90s. This music sounds extremely modern right now. I chose the neo-romantic twist of Nochnoy Prospeckt's Antidisco Song as the main motif of the release, which opens and closes the show.

Uzbekistan-based DJ and boss of the experimental TOPOT label Eugenie Galochkin presents rare vinyl rips from the Soviet Melodia label. Melodia has released music from all around the world: from obscure Baltic electronica and free jazz from Siberia; to synth-pop from Tajikistan and academic avant-garde from Ukraine. The series will explore how national and cultural characteristics are embedded in musical language.
