First Light's Third Space #19 - Olli Aarni & Hayley Suviste ▾
The first half of this episode is curated by sound and visual artist Olli Aarni, who brings together recordings of Helsinki's soundscape with a selection of music from other Finnish artists - including some previously unreleased tracks.
Olli's mix is followed by an hour of field recordings and local music chosen and mixed by Manchester-based sound artist, Hayley Suviste.
Each month, First Light Records invites two artists to take an unplanned journey with a microphone around their city to curate an hour-long mix. Each show captures the unique atmosphere of a city from each artist's perspective, through music and found sound.

Alabama composer Ben Link Collins explores field recordings as fiction in his new album Fictionalism, and Greek/Italian duo Valeria Miracapillo and Dimos Vryzas offer some improvised magic from their first studio session in Athens to be released as Discipline of The Slow.
The second half of the show is a special mix by Vietnamese composer Nhung Nguyen, who also releases as Sound Awakener, featuring her own compositions and field recordings from Hanoi.

Sound Art Brighton # Nocturnal by Kersten Glandien ▾
Nocturnal is an audio montage evoking the sound experiences of my night excursions into the Australian Outback in October 2024, accompanying the zoomusicologist Hollis Taylor on her night recording sessions with the pied butcherbird. In six chapters we are inducted into an alien nocturnal world, populated by creatures, humans and their mysterious activities.

Broadcasts and new works by Sound Art Brighton, a female and LGBTQ+ artist led organisation dedicated to the support, production and dissemination of sound art. Founded in 2019 as a Brighton-based initiative, the group initially focused on bringing together individuals, institutions and organisations interested in sound art in Brighton and Hove to collaborate on shared activities, culminating in the Sound Art Brighton Festival in March 2022.
