Listening Experience #13 - A Balcony in Johannesburg

This episode of Listening Experience is titled “A Balcony In Johannesburg”, and features field recordings I made in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was in Johannesburg to participate in the annual Edge of Wrong festival; these recordings were made from the apartment balcony where I was staying.

The recordings were made at various times of day; the progression of time in this episode reflects the progression of time in the field, starting from early morning and continuing through mid-afternoon.

Dronica meets events curators, creative directors and labels owners in 2021.

In this episode, Dronica meets Shahin Entezami, co-curator at SET Experimental Art Events, in Tehran.

Shahin Entezami, also known by his stage name “Tegh” is a musician and sound artist and practitioner based in Tehran, Iran. In his music, Tegh tries to bring new aural experiences to life by using various audio elements and complex soundscapes. These experiences usually manifest his personal perception of facing new stories, geographies and different situations. The ways he usually tries to express these ideas take root in Noise, Drone and Experimental electronic styles and sometimes manifest themselves in the form of electroacoustic compositions.

He has also released albums and singles on labels like Opal Tapes (UK), Zabte Sote (IR), Hibernate Recordings (UK), Dronarivm (RU), Inner Ocean Records (CA), Midira Records (GE), Futuresequence (US), Flaming Pines (UK), Bitrot Recordings (IR) and more.

Also, based on his eagerness to discover the world of other artists he has been involved in many collaboration projects like “Artirial”, “Temp-Illusion”, “Umchunga & Tegh” and so forth. He’s one of the curators at SET, Experimental Iranian festival in Tehran.

Shahin presents a two-hour mix focused on presenting music from my favorite artists considered as a part of Iranian Experimental Electronic Scene, from around the world, a mixture of both promising and well-known artists.

female:pressure #142 - Gulnara Petzold

Gulnara Petzold, a multi-talented artist, is known for her expertise as a sound artist, composer, vocalist, and DJ. During her time at the University of Arts Berlin, she actively represented women and played a pivotal role in organizing a lecture and performance series featuring renowned female artists such as Gudrun Gut and Anika.

The vibrant music scene in Berlin greatly influenced her artistic development. Despite being self-taught, Gulnara has honed her musical skills to perfection. This year, she astounded audiences with an experimental electronic concert combining spoken word and captivating DJ sets at prominent venues like Ava Berlin, where she collaborated with the collective female:pressure.

Gulnara has released several tracks and collaborations under esteemed labels like Associated Paraboloid and Big Bells Records. Her most recent production gained recognition when it was featured in a video reel by the Russian underground club Blank to promote a forthcoming event. This summer, she is set to mesmerize audiences with her live performances and DJ sets at various art festivals and clubs, showcasing her exceptional talent and captivating audiences with her unique sound.


Twice-monthly broadcast showcasing electronic music produced by members of the female:pressure international network of female, transgender and non-binary artists practising in the fields of electronic music and digital arts.

Radia #980 - Duuu Zéro Propos Compilation by Gaël Bandelier & Gilles Furtwängler

Zéro Propos is a Lausanne-based hyperjective poetry group created in 2020 by Gäel Bandelier and Gilles Furtwängler. Following three residencies at *Duuu radio in Paris in 2021 and 2022, the group gave birth to the Zéro Propos. Zéro titre project, which is a double album of 13 tracks.

From scraps of sentences picked up in the street, on the internet, everywhere, they write with four hands, little by little, cutting, pasting, adding, mixing words and phonemes. The result is a material of sentences mixing everyday life, concrete and abstract poetry.

Composed by Gaël Bandelier and Gilles Furtwängler of Zéro Propos, and performed by Gaël Bandelier, Rachel Bazaïda, Sarah Calas, Martine Chesnau, Sarah Salomé Delétain, Gilles Furtwängler, Delphine Herscovici, Lucienne Larue, Michel Larue, Angeline Ostinelli, Anne-Marie Petit, Clara Rodriguez and Marielle Soca.

First Light's Third Space #1 - Martina Bertoni & Guillaume Dujat

Manchester / Berlin

The first half of this month's Third Space features Martina Bertoni, an artist who has pricked ears across the music world with her meticulous debut back-to-back releases. Bertoni's heady sonic dive into Berlin includes experimental mainstays, recordings of chanting and morning from Berlin icon Bob Rutman's funeral, along with sounds captured during journeys on the city's s-bahn.

Following on from that is Guillaume Dujat, a Manchester-based artist whose exciting solo material has been put out on First Light Records and who, alongside Joe Beedles, comprises half of computer music whiz kid project, WEȽ∝KER.

We welcome you to explore the sound and music of Manchester and Berlin in our first iteration of Third Space.


Each month, First Light Records invites two artists to take an unplanned journey with a microphone around their city to curate an hour-long mix. Each show captures the unique atmosphere of a city from each artist's perspective, through music and found sound.

The radio counterpart to live intermedia event series Late Works, hosted by founder Joseph Bradley Hill. Each month a selection of artists respond to the show on postcards and send them in as inspiration for the next. Running through the shows are a modular stem experiment in which musicians improvise live to original 15 minute compositions.

Sonic Darts # Hogsmill River Sound Walk

In this episode, an hour long edit of a binaural field recording made by Paul Freeman a week prior to this transmission, walking the length of the Hogsmill River in South West London.

The river is a rare chalk stream, one of only 210 in the world. It springs in Ewell Village and makes its way through suburban nature reserves, crossing under the occasional railway line and road until it joins the Thames at Kingston.

The recording was made using head mounted microphones to record in the binaural method, so for the full effect it's recommended to listen on headphones.
