Midnight BST New!

purge.xxx #4 - Music for the Films of Takashi Ito by Takashi Inagaki

This series for Resonance Extra is the first time much of the label's catalogue has been available to hear outside of its material form. It accepts the invitation by Resonance on the basis that none of these sounds are stored. If you want to hear it you need to be able to access the radio at midnight BST every Thursday.

Running weekly, the series will broadcast the entire catalogue so far in chronological order, continuing here with Takashi Inagaki's Music for the Films of Takashi Ito.

purge.xxx releases music. It has been celebrated by The Wire magazine for its ‘disregard for the music industry, self-promotion and prevailing cultural norms,’ and an ‘ability to elevate distinct works and the obscure artists behind them.’ purge.xxx only releases music physically, unless a digital alternative has specifically been requested by a collaborating artist. It considers even the recording a compromise, but advocates things.

Let jazz be free!

Uzbekistan-based DJ and boss of the experimental TOPOT label Eugenie Galochkin presents rare vinyl rips from the Soviet Melodia label. Melodia has released music from all around the world: from obscure Baltic electronica and free jazz from Siberia; to synth-pop from Tajikistan and academic avant-garde from Ukraine. Radia #998 - Compositing for Radio a Workshop by Diffusion FM

This is a montage created from the Radio as a Space and a Material community workshop with Diffusion FM 91.9 held at 107 Redfern. For this event we invited the community to contemplate alternative radio space.

We also invited the wonderful Hethre Contant to participate which inevitably included an appearance of The Weekly Dream Report. Also big thanks to Ryan Morris for sharing his other consciousness with us.

Here are the results of workshop participants enjoying performative experiments. During these “jams” the usual suspects were utilised – extremely low-powered terrestrial radio wave technologies, other electromagnetic and time-based sensing tools, telephones, walkie-talkies, computers, deep sea cables, whatever paraphernalia came to hand and August Black’s telematic browser app Mezcal.

Most of the material was recorded using a very old H1 ZOOM with only one functioning microphone and mobile phones. The results are delightfully LoFi and in glorious mono!
