walkplacedistancetime #18 - One Day in June: Movement 1 ▾
Welcome to walkplacedistancetime.
Walking, movement in place, in air, distance through time.
In this episode: Iceland ... every three hours for 24 hours ... eight times ... daag einn I juni ... I stand and look east across the fell to the obelisk. Beyond it the northern shoulder of Burfell rises then slips away off its hog’s back summit. Stand and listen to the plaintive pipe of the Golden Plover and the croak of the Snipe.
Stand … then move off ... down the slope; through the Marsh Marigolds; over the stream; cross two fences; cross the horse paddock to the leaning post; along the horse path; around to the fence to the left; over the fence; cross four streams; pass the waterfall; cross the marsh; cross the stream on stones; up the slope to gap in ridge; up the slope to the lip; around the obilisk; pause; retrace my steps ... eight walks ... eight sections ... split ... re-built ... into a day at random ... eight movements ... this is movement 1.

This episode revisits a project undertaken by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums in 2012 called Half Memory, which explored the excavation of memory and imagination, the fleeting moment and The forgotten story.
The project invited artists and musicians working with sound and the moving image to unearth material from the vast collections of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums to inspire new work.
It’s a emotional mix and the oblique and fractured narrative of the voices combined with Steve’s lush ambient productions provide an emotive and moving listening experience.

First Light's Third Space #16 - unperson & Elif Gülin Soğuksu ▾
In the first half of this episode, unperson traces Sheffield's experimental music from the DIY post-punk scene of the 1980s, through the pirate radio days of the 1990s, to the city's contemporary boundary pushers. In his words: "lots of bleeps, lots of bass".
In the second half, Elif Gülin Soğuksu weaves a path through the hum of Istanbul, a mix which she describes as "a glimpse into the sound world of stray dogs howling to the morning prayer in rural areas, street musicians playing traditional instruments, street vendors selling simit, fish, meat, and fruits in Beyoğlu ... Turkish classical music playing in the silversmith shop in Sultanahmet ... the micro sounds of rocks, dirt, and bushes near the historic Orthodox Orphanage in Princes' Island".
Each month, First Light Records invites two artists to take an unplanned journey with a microphone around their city to curate an hour-long mix. Each show captures the unique atmosphere of a city from each artist's perspective, through music and found sound.

Injazero #26 - Night Gestalt Guest Mix ▾
In this episode, Arpeggios Everywhere.
Composer Olof Cornéer is obsessed with arpeggios. Under his Night Gestalt-alias he has created three albums full of arpeggios: slow, fast, rhythmic, free flowing. To him an arpeggio is so much more than a broken chord - it’s the essence of music. It’s melody, harmony, rhythm and a peculiar movement at once: standing still and moving fast at the same time. Arpeggios live outside of time. Here is an hour with his favorite arpeggios, some from the classical world and some from the electronic.
Injazero Records founder Siné Buyuka plays a selection of electronic, experimental, ambient and contemporary classical tracks.
