East Asia PhoNographic Mornings #19 - Patrick Franke 'Bayankhongorijn Khukh Nuur' ▾
In this episode, 'Bayankhongorijn Khukh Nuur' by Patrick Franke.
"In 2013 I took part in an expedition to Central Mongolia. I was focussing on sound recordings to clarify the taxonomic status of some species based on bioacoustics or even to make first ever recordings."
Amongst other places we went to an alpine area surrounding the lake Bayankhongorijn Khukh Nuur. As days during expeditions are usually very packed, time for recordings of the general soundscape or even enjoying that just by listening is very limited. Thus, this excerpt of an one hour recording is a rather rare exception.
My aim was to document the soundscape of this particular spot after capturing vocalisations of most of it's inhabitants discretely. Furthermore this recording of a sparsely populated habitat should scrutinise Bernie Krauses 'acoustic niche' theory which is mostly based on data from densely populated habitats."
Patrick Franke is a freelance ornithologist and sound recordist based in Berlin, Germany.
Stéphane Marin presents a weekly series of fifteen short soundscapes recorded in the mornings at various locations throughout East Asia. This series for Resonance Extra forms part of a wider project, 'Each Morning of the World', which invites sound artists, composers and recordists globally to share their own specific point of listening, either through a raw field recording or original composition.

Teaching Computers to Love #11 - Saga Chalotte, Zowze & George Rayner Law ▾
Olivia Morgan is a London based musician playing synth in Nukuluk and Blue Bendy. She is interested in distorting sounds and making instruments/soundscapes from recordings or samples. This is a somewhat nostalgic piece inspired by the death of my cat. She recorded him purring the day he was put to sleep and used the recording to make many of the sounds that create this space. It’s a melancholic, calm environment with occasional disjointed sounds and implications of unease.
George Rayner-Law is a sound worker from South London, with an art practice in Noise. Recently, he has completed collaborations with Nicholas Tee on the video pieces untitled [circuit breaker], You Will Not Feel This Way Forever, and sound for the durational installation REST-LESS. He has an ongoing collaboration with Dominic O’Donoghue on the Bootlicker project, and is an ongoing contributor to Louis Grace’s series on Resonance Extra. He also has a recent release via Brachliegen Tapes.
Beyond this, he is an experienced radio broadcast engineer, and has produced work spanning radio arts, installation, video, live performance and commercial release, as well as running DIY record labels.
Louis Grace presents Teaching Computers to Love. This is a collaborative platform for artists to develop an episode sonically with a 10-20 minute body of work.

Mitamine Lab #53 - With Love, Tenderness, Familial Warmth, Joy or Ecstasy ▾
For this episode, Mitamine Lab has cooked a mix with lots of dub gems, recent releases and some field recordings inspired by the works of British painter Michael Kirkham.
"Kirkham probes uncomfortable truths about contemporary life, staging his brand of psychological portraiture amidst dim interiors, still lifes, and scenes of urban malaise. While invested in traditions that skew niche and graphic (in all senses of the term), the experience he creates is closer to the unflappable genericness of Koons, the pathos of Balthus, the medium-specificity of Nicole Eisenman, or, occasionally, the despairing filmic worlds of contemporaries like Gaspar Noe, Andrea Arnold, or the Safdie brothers, than the lineages from which he so readily borrows." – Harkawik
Mitamine Lab is a culture laboratory based in Mexico City which blends sound archives with contemporary music and literature.
