Residencies - Mark Vernon ▾
Mark Vernon explores concepts of audio archaeology, magnetic memory and nostalgia through his sound works. At the core of his practice lies a fascination with the intimacy of the radio voice, environmental sound, obsolete media and the reappropriation of found recordings.
A rich collection of domestic tape recordings; audio letters, dictated notes, answer-phone messages and other lost voices often find their way into his unorthodox soundworlds. These diverse elements are distilled into radiophonic compositions for broadcast, multi-channel diffusion, fixed media and live performances. A keen advocate of radio as an art form, he co-runs and curates Glasgow’s art radio station, Radiophrenia.
Works for radio by Mark Vernon and friends, comprising The Tonic Garden - A Sonic Survey Of Soothing Sounds; Audiology for Beginners; The Eldwitch Transmissions (with Barry Burns); Continue Without Losing Consciousness; and Vernon & Burns Hour.

Colliding Lines #16 - You Won't Find Me Here ▾
This month we celebrate the release of H O M E, a new anthology of visual poetry featuring eleven collaborations between designers and poets. Graphic artists reinterpret the poets' words into a new visual piece, created between the two mediums, so this month we started with the question: what makes meaningful design? Introducing some of our poets to their corresponding designers for the first time, the show features work by Nikki Marrone, Daisy Thurston-Gent, Iris Colomb and Wesley Freeman-Smith.
The anthology is scored in an audio interpretation by Nick Murray, and we are joined by featured poet-musicians Antosh Wojcik and Aidan Baker – talking about Nadja's new record Luminous Rot.
Colliding Lines present live sessions, cross-genre collaborations and left-field recordings drawn from the London, UK and international experimental scenes; a long-form love letter to recorded audio as soundtrack, as sound art and as storyteller.

Radio Cascabel #1023 - Whisky ▾
This episode showcases Argentinean duo Whisky. María Pérez and Macarena Fuentes decided to join forces in an experimental project where the music triggers other artistic experiences. Inspired by viral videos and absurd regional beliefs, they make their songs with synthesisers and voiced subliminal messages.
They like to tell personal, intimate stories through lo-fi videos that they make themselves, in which they blend everyday situations with moments of fiction and dance. The music breeds a desire of contemplation and the videos, a desire of dance. Between rhythm and noise, take a sip of this experience.

Tyneside Sounds Society #15 - Tim Shaw - 'River Tyne' ▾
Tim Shaw is a sound artist based in North East of England - he gave me access to field recordings he's made in and around River Tyne in the North East of England over the last 12 months - I've mixed an hours worth of material that offers a slow meditation on this once busy and heavily industrialised river.
It presents a dense portrait of marginalised and liminal spaces along, in and on the river. On board dredgers, underneath bridges and down manholes Tim used hydrophones, contact mics, electromagnetic pick ups and more traditional sound recording. Much of this material was used in collaboration with film maker Leah E Millar for her 16mm film Un.s.scene.
