Sonic Darts # After the Rave

Gwaith Swn's Sonic Darts is a London-based sound art collective presenting new sound works, performances and discussions.

This month: After the Rave. Following our last show which covered the connections between drum & bass, jungle and computer game music, After the Rave traces connections between ambient music, chillout rooms and the quiet spaces of computer games.

Moving through work by Autechre, The Orb, Lustmord and Susumu Yokota, alongside music from Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil and Ico, we explore how sound makes room for recovery, attention and retreat.

The journey leads from shared spaces beside the dance floor to bedrooms, underwater worlds and temporary refuges inside horror games. Repeated melodies and unfolding textures give virtual environments a sense of permanence, allowing players to linger, explore or breathe. A save room becomes a shelter; a familiar loop becomes a remembered place.
