Monogram
Monogram with Ed Baxter is a bulletin board of new and archival audio, offered in a digressive and leisurely exploration of radio space. Today: a randomly chosen repeat of Episode 7: music by Morton Feldman, Richard Povall and Jennifer Walshe. Feldman's 1985 piano work For Bunita Marcus, performed in 1990 by John Tilbury and released on the LondonHALL label, comes in at a little under eighty minutes. It's a long piece of still and meditative music for a quiet room, a modernist classic from the era of Art with a capital A. Richard Povall's electronics composition Enclosure, from 1995, was recorded live at Dartington College of Arts, UK, and is from the Frog Peak Music release Impossible Rags. It's a composition which draws on an interactive palette created by a MAX patch at the height of the 1990s' MSP craze. Bulletin M's The Bulletin M Books of Songtags (edit#17a) is from the Songtags CD of 2009 by Grupat and Jennifer Walshe - one of a number of pseudonymous works by the prolific Irish composer and singer. It uses her signature multitracked voice in frenetic patterns and is audibly post-modern in intention and execution.
