Mitamine Lab #6 - Rolando Hernandez

Tuesday 3rd July 2018 23:00 - 00:00 BST

Mitamine Lab is a culture laboratory based in Mexico City which blends sound archives with contemporary music and literature. Mitamine Lab presents 'Colección Hispanomexicana de Música Contemporánea' by Rolando Hernández, a Mexican artist who works in performance, sound, archiving and curatorial projects. He's co-curator of Umbral, an experimental music festival in Mexico City and Oaxaca.

Much has been said about Mexican experimental art during the 80s, where stories that privilege different fields such as documentary photography and the neomexicanismos have prevailed, although, there are cases of experimentation with physical materials such as the work of Eloy Tarcisio and Mario Rangel Faz. Here, there is a return to the figurative.

In the case of documentary photography, by its nature, there is a total attachment to reality, which means that experimentation is often left out.
But, is it that experimentation is not also an evaluation of reality?

'Colección Hispanomexicana de Música Contemporánea' talks about the networks created by the counterculture in Mexico, opening the music production to groups of alternative experimentation.
