Gravity Waves and The Spirit World # Hard to Place
Commissioned new work from contemporary sound practitioners and other audio choices from experimental electronic collective The Spirit of Gravity.
The first hour of this episode features more recordings from the orbit of The Spirit of Gravity, including a track recorded around the time we started out featuring "American Jeff" and recorded in his office above our first venue 25 years ago.
The second hour is dedicated to Hard to Place, an extended piece produced for Gravity Waves by Christopher Simms. Hard to Place is an audio essay about Simms' experience of growing up in care in Britain during the 1960s and 1970s. As a mixed-race child, Simms had to navigate multiple layers of loss, prejudice, and uncertainty while searching for a sense of identity within a care system that often lacked cultural understanding.
