Gravity Waves and The Spirit World #16 - reqiemc40
Commissioned new work from contemporary sound practitioners and other audio choices from experimental electronic collective The Spirit of Gravity.
This month: rebroadcast of Carl Slater's requiemc40, sound collage originally broadcast in September 2017 as part of Keith Harrison's JOYRIDE project, in which the visual artist launched a Rover 75 replica of a car down a 10-metre wooden ramp to its destruction. The artwork broadcast this evening was first broadcast on Joyride FM, a temporary radio station set-up in the forest to soundtrack the launch, and features fragmented documentary archive material, white noise, cartoon physics and terminal flatlines presenting a social-historical framework of automotive manufacturing, alternative readings of joyriding, dogging and car culture.
JOYRIDE was commissioned for Jerwood Open Forest, supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation, Forestry Commission England and Arts Council England.
